Located in Southwest Orange County, Horizon West is generally defined by the area north of Walt Disney World, west of the Butler Chain of Lakes and south of John's Lake. Horizon West was initiated in the early 1990's by an organized group of property owners determined to revitalize agricultural lands decimated by the citrus freezes of the 1980's.
The development of Horizon West is characterized by a new urbanistic vision of independent, self-sustaining villages interconnected with a pedestrian friendly town center.
Orange County has initiated a Preliminary Engineering (PE) Study to improve Ficquette Road, Porter Road, Reams Road and McKinney Road within the Village of Bridgewater. The PE Study is a roadway development process tailored to evaluate the engineering, social, and environmental impacts of potential roadway improvements.
The intent of this study is to identify and recommend the most appropriate roadway improvements to serve the area's increasing travel demands. Growth in Southwest Orange County is rapidly occurring and area roadway network improvements will be necessary. It is anticipated that travelers will experience increased traffic congestion and longer delays on the area roadways.
The types of improvements to be studied during the PE Study include the addition of travel lanes, realignment of roadway segments, signalization and intersection improvements, the addition of sidewalks and multi-use paths, roadway landscaping and other safety enhancements including roadway lighting and drainage improvements. |
