  • Why do mosquitoes need blood?

The females are the only ones who bite, and need the protein in the blood for maturing their eggs prior to laying.

  • Why do I get bitten by mosquitoes and others do not?

When female mosquitoes sense carbon dioxide, they set out to locate the source: Once in the general vicinity other cues predominate, such as body odors including lactic acid, sweat and heat. Certain perfumes, deodorant soaps and shampoos can also be attractants.

  • Can mosquitoes transmit AIDS?

Many studies have been conducted and the experts have concluded HIV does not replicate in mosquitoes. Mosquitoes digest the virus that causes AIDS.
