SpecialCare is the volunteer healthcare provider program in Orange County. It is a joint partnership between the Orange County Medical Society and Orange County Government that offers an organized network of volunteer specialty physicians and hospitals to provide medical care for eligible adults.
Orange County provides access to convenient primary care sites to insure continuity of care. Prescription medication, laboratory, radiology and case management are provided to facilitate the physician's treatment plan. All local hospitals donate care for the volunteer physician's patients.
SpecialCare is directed by a board, comprised of physicians, leaders in the healthcare community, SpecialCare volunteers and Orange County Medical Society Board members. Through its volunteer provider network, SpecialCare provided $1.2 Million in donated services to its patients in 2004.
SpecialCare participants can volunteer in their private offices or at the downtown clinic at: 101 South Westmoreland Drive, Orlando. **The State of Florida extends sovereign immunity (protection from professional liability) to its volunteer healthcare professionals. |
