The Commission on Aging envisions an elder-friendly community that empowers older adults through choices that allow them to support and maintain their independence within their home communities.

Improving the quality of life:
To identify the needs of the senior population and find ways to help by working collaboratively

The Commission on Aging is an advisory board to the Orange County Board of County Commissioners. The fifteen board members are appointed to represent different industries that are tied to the lives of older adults including healthcare, transportation, and faith communities. The Commission on Aging meets bi-monthly on the second Monday, starting in January.  The Commission is supported by a Community Partnerships Committee that is comprised of the agencies providing services to seniors and their families.

This year's conference is packed with concurrent workshops covering effective senior center programming, nutrition and successful aging, and approaches to mental health and substance abuse issues.  Offering up to 15 CEUs! The FCOA has applied for up to 15 Continuing Education Units for the following professions: Nurses, Nursing Home Administrators, Registered Dieticians, Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, Mental Health Counselors, Certified Nursing Assistants, and Guardians.  Pre Registration Deadline: August 4, 2008.
