Big Box Ordinance

After notable public outcry at the number and impact of new Big Box developments occuring in Orange County, a Big Box Task Force was designated by the Mayor and Board of County Commissioners. During a 1-year moratorium on new Big Box developments (retail / wholesale buildings with more than 75,000 square feet), the Task Force, and County staff, were charged with developing new design and development standards meant to mitigate the adjacent impacts of new Big Box developments.

The Task Force met more than 8 times over the course of a year before submitting the draft Ordinance to the Local Planning Agency (LPA) for its consideration. On March 6th of 2007, the Board of County Commissioners reviewed the Task Force's version, as well as revisions to the draft Ordinance recommended by the LPA. On March 20th, 2007 the Board of County Commissioners adopted the attached version of the Big Box Ordinance.
