Q. What is housing fraud?
A.
The Section 8 Program is a federally-funded rental assistance program designed to help low and very low income eligible citizens obtain safe, decent and sanitary housing at affordable price. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) determines the rules and regulations for the Section 8 Housing Program. The Housing and Community Development Division administers the Section 8 Housing Program in Orange County. OPS conducts investigations for fraud or abuse of program funds.

Q. How do I report possible fraud under the Section 8 Rental Assistance program?
A. If you are aware of fraud or abuse of the HUD Section 8 Rental Assistance Program, you may contact either OPS Tenant Integrity Investigator, (407) 836-0021; or the Section 8 Program Manager at (407) 836-5151.
