UCF Burnett Honors College
P.O. Box 161342
Orlando, FL  32815

My goal as a life-long educator and administrator is to cultivate well-rounded students who will become aware and engaged citizens in the communities in which they live. As Dean of UCF's Burnett Honors College (TBHC), this means that I develop opportunities for students to pursue academic excellence as well as provide opportunities for cultural enrichment and community engagement for our students. One example is our award-winning Honors Educational Reach Out (HERO) Program which has successfully partnered with Junior Achievement (JA) of Central Florida. In the fall of 2006, over 500 Honors students taught JA lessons in 19 underserved Orange County schools. This effort represented over 3,000 hours of service impacting 10,040 K-5 students. We are proud of our students and of the fact that our HERO/JA partnership is a best-practice model for Honors colleges around the nation. On a personal level, I hold myself to the same high expectations that I have for my students. Academically, I achieved high standards when I pursued my B.A. and Ph.D. in psychology (in addition to serving as a Dean, I am also a professor of psychology at UCF). I have always maintained an interest in arts and culture (I was a few credits shy of obtaining a second baccalaureate in Art History) and I am an avid world traveler. In fact, I was able to integrate my passions when I developed the seminar, The Psychology of Art? which I have taught at UCF as well as in Florence, Italy as part of a semester teaching abroad program. I have always provided service to my profession and community. For instance, from 2000-2004 I served as Vice-President for the National Honors Society for Psychology. For the past three years, I have been an active board member of the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation as well as a member of the Garden Theater Committee which is overseeing the renovation of Winter Garden.
