The goal was to create community awareness about adopting shelter pets. The idea was born from the Central Florida Animal Coalition – a group that consists of animal services groups from Orange, Seminole, and Polk Counties and the local Humane Society. Although each partner celebrated the event at their shelter individually, the main event for Orange County took place on March 27, where people enjoyed free food and snacks, all donations from local businesses. In addition, they received information on pet care and ownership from local pet experts. Animal Services welcomed close to 600 members of the public during the weekend, all looking to find their next best friend.
Special hours for the Adopt-a-Thon were extended to Sunday for that weekend only. Adoption rates were the regular price of $35 for cats and $45 for Dogs. The fees included spaying or neutering, rabies vaccination and an identification chip for all pets before they went to their new home. |
